Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the practice of bringing your attention to the present moment with curiosity and kindness. It can include stillness, guided meditation, gentle movement, and creative activities to help you connect more deeply with yourself and the world around you.
What can I expect in a session?
Each session is a mix of:
-
Guided mindfulness practices
-
Gentle, mindful movement (suitable for most bodies and abilities)
-
Creative activities to explore awareness in different ways
-
Time for reflection and sharing (if you feel comfortable)
You do not need prior experience—everything is guided step by step.
Do I need to be flexible or fit?
Not at all. The mindful movements are gentle and adaptable. They are designed to support awareness and relaxation, not athletic performance. Chairs and props may be used to ensure comfort.
What if I find it hard to sit still or “empty my mind”?
That’s very common! Mindfulness isn’t about “stopping thoughts” but about noticing what’s happening in your mind and body with kindness. You can move, shift position, or take a break at any time.
Do I need special equipment?
Generally, no. Comfortable clothing is recommended so you can move with ease. If sessions involve movement on the floor, a yoga mat or cushion may be useful. All other materials for creative activities are provided.
Are there any health considerations or contraindications?
Mindfulness and gentle mindful movement are safe for most people, but there are a few considerations:
-
If you have a current or recent injury, chronic pain, or limited mobility, please let the me know so adaptations can be offered.
-
If you are pregnant, movements and activities can usually be modified, but it’s best to check with your healthcare provider first.
-
If you are living with a mental health condition such as severe depression, trauma, or psychosis, mindfulness can sometimes bring up difficult thoughts or emotions and therefore may not be suitable for you. Please consult with your healthcare professional and let me know in advance.
-
You are always encouraged to listen to your body and mind, and to opt out of any practice that doesn’t feel right for you.
Do I have to share my experiences with the group?
Sharing is always optional. You are welcome to simply listen and take in what feels supportive.
How is this different from yoga or meditation?
While there are overlaps, mindfulness is not about mastering postures or striving for stillness—it’s about cultivating awareness in everyday life. Our sessions combine elements of meditation, movement, and creativity in a gentle, accessible way.
